Custom vs. Prefab Cabinets: Which Fits Your Corpus Christi Home?

Custom vs. Prefab Cabinets: Which Fits Your Corpus Christi Home?

Deciding between custom, semi-custom, and prefab (stock) cabinets is one of the biggest choices you'll make during a remodel. Here is how they compare in fit, quality, and installation scope.

    Prefabricated (Stock) Cabinets

Prefab cabinets are mass-produced in standard sizes (usually in 3-inch increments). They are often the most budget-friendly and quickest to acquire. However, because they are standard sizes, they often require "filler strips" to fit your walls, which can result in wasted space. The materials and finishes are also generally lower quality than custom options.

    Semi-Custom Cabinets

Semi-custom cabinets offer a middle ground. They are still manufactured in standard sizes, but you have more options for finishes, door styles, and internal organizers. You can sometimes request slight dimension modifications, but you are still bound by a manufacturer's catalog constraints.

    Fully Custom Cabinets

Custom cabinets are built from scratch specifically for your room. There are no catalog constraints. If you have an awkward corner, an uneven ceiling, or a specific storage need, the cabinet is designed to solve that exact problem.

What This Means For Your Project

At Duncan Woodworks, we build fully custom cabinetry. We do not install customer-supplied prefab units. If you want a seamless fit, premium materials, and a design that maximizes every inch of your space, custom is the right choice.
